Tony Troughton – Keeping Punk Alive!

Rocking Fox Radio co-founder, punk rock pioneer, live music obsessive and the man behind the exclusive Punks Not Dead Radio Show.

Oi Oi… Who Am I?

My name is Tony Troughton, and I’m the curator, imagination and driving force behind Punks Not Dead Radio Show on Rocking Fox Radio!

I consider myself something of a pioneer of punk rock within the borders of my beloved Forest of Dean.

And I’ve got the musical scars to prove it!

Barbed Wire and the Forest of Dean Punk Scene

Back in the early 1980s, I helped found a punk band called Barbed Wire.

Within a couple of short years, we’d managed to influence, shake up and possibly scar the Forest of Dean music scene.

Some of those memories are still lingering today!

Those early adventures cemented my lifelong passion for punk music, its attitude and the incredible independent bands that keep the scene alive.

A Lifelong Love of Live Music

If there’s one thing I love almost as much as punk itself, it’s live music.

Before COVID came along and put the brakes on everything, I regularly attended gigs featuring more than 100 different bands in a single year.

That’s a lot of bands, a lot of venues and probably a few pairs of worn-out shoes!

Then came the pandemic.

Suddenly, the gigs stopped, the venues closed and live music disappeared almost overnight.

Damn that plague!

But even the darkest clouds occasionally have a silver lining.

And this particular one helped bring about the birth of Rocking Fox Radio.

The Birth of Rocking Fox Radio

When the pandemic brought live music to a standstill, there was still one thing we could do.

Share our love of music with other people.

In 2021, I joined forces with Jan and Ian Gow to launch Rocking Fox Radio, an independent internet radio station dedicated to great music and the people who love it.

What began as an idea during lockdown became a home for presenters who share a genuine passion for music.

And for me, it meant another way to keep the punk spirit alive!

Inspired by the Legendary John Peel

One of my biggest musical influences has always been the late, great John Peel.

His enthusiasm for discovering new bands, supporting independent artists and giving unheard music a platform was truly inspirational.

He wasn’t afraid to play something different.

And that’s exactly the attitude I try to bring to my own radio show.

There’s a whole world of incredible music out there that deserves to be heard.

Sometimes you just need somebody to put the record on!

Punks Not Dead Radio Show – Exclusive to Rocking Fox Radio

As the man behind Punks Not Dead Radio Show, my mission is simple.

I want to introduce listeners to music they might never otherwise discover.

From punk classics and underground favourites to new bands keeping the scene alive, the show is all about celebrating punk rock in its many forms.

It’s about discovering something new, supporting the artists and keeping that rebellious spirit going.

Whether you’ve been a punk since the seventies or you’re just discovering the music, there’s always room for another listener.

And the best bit?

Punks Not Dead Radio Show is broadcast exclusively on Rocking Fox Radio!

Life Without Music Isn’t Life at All!

My goal has never changed.

I want to bring music to people’s ears, take them on a journey of discovery and introduce them to bands they might otherwise have missed.

Because, as far as I’m concerned:

“Life Without Music Isn’t Life at All!”

And above everything else…

KEEP PUNK ALIVE!!

Cheers,

T
