Meet Neil ‘The Saint’ Saint, presenter and programme maker of Retropopic Radio – The Global Home of the Great Artist Interview on Rocking Fox Radio.

With a passion for 20th-century music, two published music books and an international broadcasting career, Neil brings fascinating conversations with musicians, producers and other figures from the music industry to listeners around the world.

But there’s much more to The Saint than music. Here’s Neil’s story, in his own words.

Hi, It’s The Saint Here!

Although I was born in North London, most of my childhood was spent living in the Yeovil area of Somerset.

After graduating from Keele University, I began working with children with special needs. I then moved into middle management at the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.

Later, I became the home carer for my two young children while my wife took on the role of main earner.

My family and I also spent some time living in France. During that period, I received the ICC World Volunteer of the Year Award for coaching cricket in the Charente-Maritime area.

We subsequently emigrated to Australia, where I gained my MA in primary teaching.

Now based in York, when I’m not pursuing my HUGE music compulsion, I help 16-to-18-year-olds in the Dewsbury area find employment, training opportunities or college courses.

The Story Behind Retropopic Radio

I began presenting and producing Retropopic in 2017 at Sydney’s 2RRR community radio station.

Since then, the programme has reached audiences around the world.

As well as Rocking Fox Radio, Retropopic has been broadcast by Ridge Radio, Voodoo Radio Online, IndyLive and Rising Radio in the UK, Artefaktor in Mexico, and 8 97fm in Australia.

At its heart, Retropopic focuses on the music of the 20th century.

Every edition features an artist interview, giving listeners the opportunity to discover the stories behind the music.

For example, I’ve spoken with Marco Pirroni, formerly of Adam & The Ants, about his musical journey.

I’ve also interviewed producer Hugh Padgham, exploring his work on Synchronicity in a track-by-track discussion of the album.

These conversations offer a chance to hear about the experiences, influences and creative decisions behind some remarkable music.

Music Books and Industry Connections

I’m also a published author, with two music books released through New Haven Publishing.

One explores punk music, while the other focuses on The New Seekers.

In addition, I’ve worked as a tour manager and developed an extensive network of contacts across the 20th-century popular music scene.

However, I feel most comfortable helping musicians connect and facilitating partnerships between artists.
