Tom Banks shows
Tom’s parents both loved music – so it was inevitable he would too. The first LP he bought was Black Sabbath’s eponymous debut album in 1970, and his first live gig was Led Zeppelin … FOR A QUID.
In 1982 an invite to a birthday party kick-started a DJ career that is still going strong 40 years later. Tom got there early to discover a DJ no-show. Dispatched by the host to his nearby flat, he grabbed as much music as he could carry and returned to the venue. He learned on the spot how to work the equipment and got offered a regular gig on the back of a successful evening.
Tom has been the resident DJ at Doubletree Hilton Cheltenham for the past 25 years. His weirdest request was being asked to play “Frosty the Snowman” at a wedding…. in February!
Tom has worked in radio before – 3 years in the 80s while living abroad – and while his job was an admin role, he’d get in early, finish his work, and be down in the studios just in time to assist putting together the station’s drive time show.
Tom loves a quiz, especially music ones – so expect loads of useless triv on your favourite 80s artists.
