Tuesdays at 7pm | Repeated Wednesdays at 11pm | Rocking Fox Radio
What happens when you go beyond the records and discover the stories of the people who made them?
Welcome to Retropopic Radio, the home of the great artist interview!
Join presenter and programme maker Neil ‘The Saint’ Saint for a fascinating journey through 20th-century popular music. Each edition features an interview with a musician or another important figure from the music industry.
From musical influences and career-defining moments to the stories behind memorable recordings, Retropopic explores the people and experiences that shaped the music we love.
Retropopic Radio – The Stories Behind the Music
Every great song has a story. However, some of the most interesting stories never make it onto the record.
That’s where Retropopic comes in.
Rather than simply playing familiar tracks, Neil invites guests to share their experiences in their own words.
As a result, listeners can discover how musicians developed their careers, what inspired their work and how some remarkable recordings came together.
The programme celebrates the music of the 20th century. However, its real focus is on the people who created it.
Whether you’re a dedicated music enthusiast or simply curious about the stories behind your favourite songs, there’s plenty to discover.
Great Artist Interviews and Musical Memories
Neil’s interviews offer an insight into the careers and creative journeys of musicians, producers and other music industry figures.
For example, former Adam & The Ants guitarist Marco Pirroni has discussed his pathway through music with Neil.
Meanwhile, acclaimed record producer Hugh Padgham has explored his work on The Police’s album Synchronicity in a track-by-track conversation.
These are just two examples of the kind of discussions that make the programme distinctive.
Some interviews explore an artist’s wider musical journey. Others take a closer look at a particular album or recording.
Either way, the aim is to give listeners a deeper understanding of the music and the people behind it.
Meet Neil ‘The Saint’ Saint
Neil began presenting and producing Retropopic in 2017 at Sydney’s 2RRR community radio station.
Since then, his programme has reached audiences around the world through a range of radio stations.
Alongside Rocking Fox Radio, Neil has broadcast through stations in the UK, Mexico and Australia.
His passion for music also extends beyond broadcasting.
In fact, Neil has written two music books, published by New Haven Publishing. One explores punk music, while the other focuses on The New Seekers.
He has also worked as a tour manager and developed an extensive network of contacts across the music industry.
Consequently, he brings both a broadcaster’s curiosity and a music enthusiast’s knowledge to his interviews.
